Choosing the right size rug is really important in a smaller sized living room. Using too large of your rug will wrap up seeming like the primary floor coverings, or carpet, in a room. Using too small of any rug can appear to be an afterthought and unplanned design aspect. It will not have right effect on your decorating as a well thought out and organized rug. Essentially you should look for a rug that is large enough to repay the guts of the floor, but not too big that all of the furniture across the perimeter of the area rests fully on top of it. If you move the rug such that it covers more of one side of a room leaving exposed floor coverings on the other hand, you will again aesthetically change the appearance of the size of the area. Small living spaces can be greatly increased by choosing and using the right carpets.
When your living room is on small side, make sure you know about the furniture pieces you are putting into that room. It is important never to overburden an inferior space with too many pieces of furniture or too large of furniture. The placement of furniture and area rugs in a small space is vital. In order to visually expand the space, keep furniture toward the wall space. Clumping furniture too close collectively, or too near the center of the area, will visibly shrink an already small space.
