Choosing the right size rug is extremely important in a more compact living room. Using too big of an rug will end up seeming like the key flooring, or carpet, in a room. Using too small of an rug can appear to be an afterthought and unplanned design factor. It will not have the right influence on your decorating as a well thought out and designed rug. Essentially you should choose a rug that is large enough to protect the guts of the ground, but not too large that of the furniture along the perimeter of the area rests fully together with it. If you shift the rug such that it covers more of 1 side of a room leaving exposed floors on the other side, you will again visually change the appearance of the size of the room. Small living spaces can be greatly increased by choosing and using the right area rugs.
When your living room is on the smaller side, make sure you know about the furnishings you are adding into that room. It is important not to overburden an inferior space with way too many furniture pieces or too large of furniture. The keeping furniture and carpets in a tiny space is vital. In order to visually expand the space, keep furniture toward the wall space. Clumping furniture too close mutually, or too near the center of the room, will visibly shrink an already small space.
