Choosing the right size rug is extremely important in a more compact living room. Using too big of any rug will end up seeming like the main floors, or carpet, in a room. Using too small of the rug can appear to be an afterthought and unplanned design component. You won't have the right effect on your decorating as a well-planned and prepared rug. Essentially you should look for a rug that is large enough to pay the guts of the ground, but not too large that all of the furniture along the perimeter of the room rests fully on top of it. If you switch the rug such that it covers more of 1 side of a room leaving exposed floor coverings on the other side, you will again aesthetically change the appearance of how big is the area. Small living spaces can be greatly increased by choosing and using the right carpets.
If you use your living area as an area where you watch tv or movies often the placement of the furniture and Television or projector is even more important. Adding the tv set and seats furniture along other walls is often the best and perhaps only solution, proper placement of a location rug will help keep the room from aesthetically shrinking. Place the area rug before or within the television set then place the furniture along the contrary outside edge of the rug. This aesthetically expands your floor space and will keep you from sense too cramped. If possible, use a circular or oval shaped rug to eliminate a boxy feel.
