Any room appears larger when it is filled with natural light. Most apartments come equipped with mini window blinds, but if you wish to make the room look bigger there is a simple trick that truly makes windows look larger. Hang up a curtain fishing rod that is about twice the width of the screen; use light or brightly colored sheers that are taken back again to both sides. You might hang the pole near the roof to give the impression of your tall windows as well.
In a small apartment, all that is required in the living room is a sofa, chair and espresso table. You might place a small bookshelf in a place to hold catalogs, and mags with small light fixture at the top. Keep furnishings from the wall so that the floor space in the heart of the area is widely open and easy to walk through. A colorful accent rug in this area adds texture and extra color.
For additional storage area and to keep the clutter at bay look for clear plastic storage bins that can be used under the foundation, or buy a coffee desk for the living room that contains drawers underneath. This way you will keep all of those items you do not use often stored away and out of look until you need them.
